As I am sure we all know, families tend to go through most conflict in times of extreme pressure. There is no doubt that the Local Government family is under massive pressure as the crisis in social care funding threatens to bring the house tumbling down. We are seeing conflicts across the sector ranging from London being funded " too generously" to fighting over business rate redistribution.  This is overlain by constant  debate about arcane  funding formulas developed in the 1970s and 1980s which bear no real resemblance to reality. What is the point of all of this?  Say what you like about the inconsistencies of the NHS in terms of budget management and service delivery, its speaks as one voice in terms of messages to Government about funding now and in future.  Local Government needs to unite and speak to Government with one voice. The crisis in social  care that needs to be addressed for everyone's sake. That is more important than individual funding.
