Social care is beginning to feel a bit like the benefit cuts the Government had to renege on earlier this year. There seems likely to be some movement on this issue. Doubtless in a way that will allow the Government to save a degree of face. The collapse of social care providers appears to be the hook. Let's see how it unfolds in the period up until Christmas.
Social care was not mentioned at all by chancellor Philip Hammond in his autumn statement, sparking a backlash from local government as well as MPs across political divides. However, taking questions following the statement the chancellor said he had “heard” local government’s concerns and was in discussions with the communities secretary Sajid Javid and health secretary Jeremy Hunt.
